Today is European Antibiotic Awareness Day, a European health initiative that raises awareness and creates change for antibiotics’ prudent use. More bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics, rendering antibiotics increasingly ineffective, and only very few new antibiotics are entering the market.
Appropriate use of antimicrobials is paramount. One of the positive strategies is the effective and safe use of non-antibiotic treatments. That’s where Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) has an important role. TCIM emphasises the fact that infectious illness is always the result of both the patient’s susceptibility and exposure to infectious agents.
