News from France via the AHP: “Clinical research and training in Homeopathy is dynamic and effective”

The Association Homeo Patients AHP France has recently released an information letter which is to be published twice a year. In their latest bulletin, they include a link to an article titled “Homeopathy: a highly regulated medical practice and a therapeutic option geared towards the future”.

In this article, Dr. H. Renoux (President of the Societe Savante d’Homeopathie and European Committee of Homeopaths) discusses clinical research as dynamic and the training of homeopathic physicians.

More than half of the French and almost a quarter of Europeans use homeopathy. In France, only a doctor can be given the title of homeopath, and only after additional specific training.

Who is not familiar with tubes of homeopathic granules?, Homeopathy is acclaimed by the French as medicine with a global and integrative approach. For Dr. Hélène Renoux, president of the Society of Homeopathy, this interest is not down to chance: “The founder, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German, spent the last years of his life in France leaving a strong footprint of research that was at the origin of the homeopathic principles that we know today, a more holistic approach, focused on the individual which meets the expectations of current patients.

Clinical research as dynamic.

Homeopathic medicine now has to evaluate its effectiveness to integrate into the health system. It is this dynamic of research that the SSH wants to develop. Dr. Renoux makes it her major project for the year 2018: “we must develop research projects that evaluate the effectiveness of homeopathic therapies”, explains the president. A project with INSERM is also under discussion. And for skeptics, Dr. Renoux recalls that each homeopathic medicine is subject to strict control and registration of the Agency for Drug Safety (ANSM).

5,000 homeopathic doctors.

The very exercise of homeopathy is highly regulated in France: only doctors registered with the Council of the Order can claim the title of homeopath after specific training. Since last April 1st, this training is homogenized through the European standard EN 16872, “In order to ensure that only properly trained doctors who actually practice homeopathic medicine can avail themselves of this title,” says Dr. Renoux. The teaching of homeopathy is done both in several French universities and in a group of private schools. Representatives of these courses have developed a common program that has served as a basis for the European standard.
