RELEASE THE FIRST REPORT PETITION

The campaign ‘Release the First Report’ has been launched in Australia, and we encourage all our member associations to ask their members to sign the petition below.

The Australian Government research Institute, NHMRC, made headlines with their 2015 report declaring homeopathy to be ineffective for any condition. But the report that the NHMRC published was NOT their original findings. It was a SECOND attempt. The FIRST report they produced was completely buried. Please join the growing number of people around the world calling for the NHMRC to release the FIRST report.

The existence of the first report was never disclosed to the public by the NHMRC until it was only discovered through Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
The NHMRC say they rejected the first report because it was poor quality, despite it being undertaken by the author of NHMRC’s own guidelines on how to conduct evidence reviews, a reputable scientist.

Freedom of Information requests have revealed that a member of NHMRC’s expert committee overseeing the review process, Professor Fred Mendelsohn, confirmed the first review to be of high quality saying: “I am impressed by the rigor, thoroughness and systematic approach given to this evaluation [….] Overall, a lot of excellent work has gone into this review and the results are presented in a systematic, unbiased and convincing manner.”
